We Do Printing

We Do Printing is a family owned and operated letterpress print shop that was started by me (Ian) my Dad (Super Dave) my wife Jenn (Quality Control) and the cat (Minouche). After some crash courses in business accounting, film output disasters caused by the cat, road trips to buy ancient equipment, and welding a few broken press parts back on (ugh) We Do Printing was born! Our expertise is printing custom artwork with photopolymer plates but we also enjoy using lead type for special projects. We also offer graphic design services as well as a multitude of finishes such as die-cutting, edge-painting, duplexing, and scoring. Trade printing makes up a large percentage of our work and we are always happy to work with new designers and stationers.

Interview with Ian from We Do Printing
When did you start letterpress printing?:
What do you like best about letterpress printing?:
The feel of the dips and ridges in the cotton card, the challenges of using such old equipment to create modern designs.
What inspires you?:
Bold design. The smell of ink and old type cabinets. Smiling brides and grooms when they receive their wedding invitations. When a custom project turns out even better than I could have imagined. The Smiths, Sex Pistols and other groups that broke up in the eighties.
Which press(es), ink & paper do you usually use?:
10"x15" Heidelberg Windmill, Rescued ink from bankrupt print shops, Cranes Lettra, St. Armand, French, Somerset, Strathmore, Savoy and Colorplan
How would you describe your artwork?:
Modern/traditional mix, clean, different.
What kind of products do you create?:
Wedding Invitations, Coasters, Business Cards, DVD covers, Posters, Greeting Cards, any ink on paper!
Do you offer custom work?:
Where can we buy your products?:
etsy shop coming soon!!
Do you offer workshops? If yes, what kind of?:
Sorry but nobody touches my press but me!
Is there anything you wished you had known as a beginner?:
lol!! I asked some very dumb questions on numerous forums. I was laughed at, insulted and picked on by some old school printers but you will never get anywhere if you don't ask questions. Don't stop experimenting and learning!
