Interview with Sarah from Shed Letterpress
When did you start letterpress printing?:
What do you like best about letterpress printing?:
The thing I love best, I suppose, is the organic nature of letterpress printing. Each print will be slightly different - and I have to be okay with that. That said, however, I adore the intense focus letterpress printing requires.
What inspires you?:
I'm primarily inspired by mid-century typography and imagery: designs that are dynamically clean but complex to produce. I like to celebrate the limitations of printed matter - the flatness, the use of open space, line art. I also derive a ton of ideas from vintage china patterns and their interpretation of the natural world.
Which press(es), ink & paper do you usually use?:
I do all of my printing on a 1954 Heidelberg Windmill and use Van Son rubber-based inks. As for paper, I'm all over the spectrum, from chipboard to salvaged topographical maps to Cranes.
What kind of products do you create?:
Invitations and cards, posters and coasters.
Do you offer custom work?:
Where can we buy your products?:
Is there anything you wished you had known as a beginner?:
