Interview with Jennifer from Product Superior
When did you start letterpress printing?:
late 2009
What do you like best about letterpress printing?:
We love the tactile quality and that we're often producing elements of very intricate, high end design— all the while doing it by hand on equipment that isn't always up to the task. And of course we're fascinated by the marriage between old and new.
What inspires you?:
Art Deco, old grouchy machines, relics of our industrial past, juicy typography, the first (and last) piece that comes off a press...
Which press(es), ink & paper do you usually use?:
A C & P 12 x 18 Craftsman and an old style C & P 8 x 12 press, on occasion we'll play with our Challenge 15ma proof press. We use primarily soy based inks on Crane's Lettra and French Paper Co papers.
What kind of products do you create?:
Greeting cards & art prints
Do you offer custom work?:
Where can we buy your products?:
Our store:
Do you offer workshops? If yes, what kind of?:
No, but we plan to in the future!
Is there anything you wished you had known as a beginner?:
Not necessarily - we have really enjoyed the trials and errors all along the way, we're learning more even today. It has allowed us to understand how to do our job better, even if we considered pulled out some hair in the process.
