About:
Poppypress is a letterpress studio located in Toulouse, the South of France. It is a collaboration between KATAPULT Design and Imprimerie 34. Poppypress aims to (re) discover letterpress printing in France. Using letterpress, this traditional printing technique is an excellent way to create something unique and beautiful. Kata who is behind KATAPULT Design studied visual communication in London. During her studies she had a chance to learn letterpress from very prestigious print makers at London Collage of Printing and Central Saint Martins. After relocated to France and saw the negligence and the misuse of old letterpress equipment she decided to create a small studio where this old tradition still can be kept alive. Of course the birth of Poppypress could have not been possible without Imprimerie 34, where Kata could meet with the people who still had the expertise of this old profession and where she could find all the letterpress equipment hidden under 20 years old dust. After 1 month of intense cleaning and restoration all the machine and most of the type become functional.
