About:
PapyPress is the result of one boy's dream of one day fulfilling his late grandfather's wish to keep the family's printing business going. For the past 7 years, he slogged day and night at the business and it wasn't until recently that an opportunity presented itself in the form of a letterpress machine -- it was precisely this same machine that his grandfather built the family business on almost 60 years ago. So with this vintage letterpress machine, PapyPress was born.

Interview with Ian from PapyPress
When did you start letterpress printing?:
2010
What do you like best about letterpress printing?:
It takes my mind off everything. Starting with a blank sheet of paper, I love building up the print a colour at a time. With the final product only showing through on the last run.
What inspires you?:
Printing has always been part of the family. Print was the only thing my grandfather knew how to do well. It brought up families and saw us through tough times. We are small now, but I hope to live up to my grandfather's legacy.
Which press(es), ink & paper do you usually use?:
The Heidelberg Windmill 10 x 15 red ball is our most prized possession. Accompanied by an unknown floor standing letterpress machine, Kelsey excelsior 5 x 8, Adana 5 x 8. We use soy based inks with either Crane or Gmund.
How would you describe your artwork?:
We usually start off with an idea. Designs are never perfect from the beginning, along the way we make tweaks as each process is built up. Our artworks are not just prints on paper but they speak off the person or company whom they belong to.
What kind of products do you create?:
Mainly bespoke wedding invitations and corporate stationery.
Do you offer custom work?:
yes
Where can we buy your products?:
www.papypress.com
Do you offer workshops? If yes, what kind of?:
Yes we do. We offer introductory workshops that give people a good broad overview of letterpress. Not the dry ones but the FUN ones!
Is there anything you wished you had known as a beginner?:
Scotch tape is your best friend. It has tons of uses when printing using a letterpress machine!
