Interview with Aubrey from The Pancake Letterpress Co.
When did you start letterpress printing?:
What do you like best about letterpress printing?:
It's a much more intimate and personal process than newer forms of printing.
What inspires you?:
I live in the Texas hill country and so I am surrounded by nature... deer love to hang out in front yards and eat any and all your landscaping efforts haha. I love rustic and rugged... Slightly unrefined yet balanced by raw beauty in the plants and wildlife. I always find myself in awe of how mysterious, powerful and majestic mountains are... Nature is possibly the most inspiring thing that ever existed. I am also really inspired by history and stories! I often listen to 99 Percent Invisible podcast and they always have the best stories... I mean, some of the craziest things you have ever heard. It provides a somewhat romanticized view of the incredible things humanity endures. I am still a total kid at heart when it comes to fantasizing about finding hidden treasure or discovering an unknown island. I am totally inspired by antique books, illustrations, clothing and music. Bit of a hopeless romantic I suppose.
Which press(es), ink & paper do you usually use?:
Kelsey 6x10, Crane Lettra, various inks
How would you describe your artwork?:
A work in process... learning, experimenting and maturing... I am currently in the process of identifying my brand and once it's done I hope to have a more solidified grasp on the personality of The Pancake Letterpress Co.
What kind of products do you create?:
Greeting Cards/Stationery
Do you offer custom work?:
no
Where can we buy your products?:
http://www.pancakeletterpress.com/shop/
Do you offer workshops? If yes, what kind of?:
No
Is there anything you wished you had known as a beginner?:
I still am a beginner and love learning from others!
