Interview with printer from Letter&Press
When did you start letterpress printing?:
As soon as my grandma show me how to do it for the first time.
What do you like best about letterpress printing?:
That we can create something really unique with our own hands. You can feel embossing under your fingers. It is extraordinery that we still print like in the old days. We cause the history can happen once again. You can be part of it.
What inspires you?:
Great deal of knowledge about typography and print design we get every day as a feedback from our followers via our Pinterest or Behance profiles. But also from expert books, meeting old printers, visiting printing museums at every country we travel to, meeting with customers, design fairs and many more.
Which press(es), ink & paper do you usually use?:
We work using treadle platen press produced probably between 1890-1900, could be made in Germany - users from Briar Press cannnot name it properly. Mostly cotton paper 300-600 gsm. Soi based inks. But also recycled papers and those ones coloured in pulp.
How would you describe your artwork?:
Our work is what we love to do every day. It is a hard, handmade crafted job. We are most of time dirty with an inks and grease. But we are also glad that our customers receive the best quality authentic product on the market. We are truely proud of printing such amazing things and ship it all across the world every day.
What kind of products do you create?:
Mostly beautiful business cards but also creative restaurant menus, unique wedding invitations, exclusive tickets, astonishing beer mats, incredible clothes labels, lovely CD covers and much, much more ... imagination is the limit.
Do you offer custom work?:
yes
Where can we buy your products?:
Mail us. We speak quite good english and german. You can pay with Paypal. We ship everywhere.
Do you offer workshops? If yes, what kind of?:
Yes we want to offer them in the future. We want to teach youngsters how unique is to create something with their own hands.
