Interview with Corine from GWA [typo]grafische werkplaats amsterdam
When did you start letterpress printing?:
In 2004
What do you like best about letterpress printing?:
The beauty of it, and the fact that we keep so much graphical heritage in our shop and can maintain the knowledge by using it.
What inspires you?:
The people that come in our shop are so inspiring, since they come from all over the world and from all different professions. I like it most when they collaborate, just because of being in the same room.
Which press(es), ink & paper do you usually use?:
GWA owns six cilinderpresses, an iron hand press, a Heidelberg Platen Press, a tabletop and some small adanas. Our favourite is the FAG Standard.
How would you describe your artwork?:
In our place people experiment with type and forms, more than looking for the perfection. We are very open for new ideas of printing. We worked with typedesigners to create new woodtype, and we work on a new way of etching - electrolytic etching.
What kind of products do you create?:
People in our shop create posters, monoprints, lino-art, postcards, birth announcements.... whatever prints on paper!
Do you offer custom work?:
Where can we buy your products?:
At our workshop only.
Do you offer workshops? If yes, what kind of?:
Yes! Letterpress, photopolymer, typesetting, woodcut, lino, drypoint, woodcut, and combinations of these techniques.
