Interview with Brian from Dogs & Stars
When did you start letterpress printing?:
2011
What do you like best about letterpress printing?:
Not to be too cliche but the hands-on nature of the process is what keeps me printing. I love the whole tangibility and being able to use an antique press to print your work.
Which press(es), ink & paper do you usually use?:
Press: 1923 Golding Jobber No. 7 (10x15). I primarily use Crane Lettra papers with Van Son rubber based ink and am in the process of switching over to Gans inks.
What kind of products do you create?:
I have a greeting card line that I sell to local shops and online. And I am a job printer as well, so business cards, invitations, stationery, coasters, art prints, etc.
Do you offer custom work?:
yes
Where can we buy your products?:
http://dogsandstars.com/collections/all
Do you offer workshops? If yes, what kind of?:
Yes, on demand workshops for individuals or small groups. More info here: http://dogsandstars.com/pages/classes
Is there anything you wished you had known as a beginner?:
So, so many things would have been helpful. But I would have to say the Henry crushable gauge "pins" were a game changer for me. I use them all the time.
