Interview with Denise from CabinPress Studio
When did you start letterpress printing?:
Founded in 2008, CabinPress Studio began as a Graphic Design Studio then refurbished it's first printing press, the rest is history!
What do you like best about letterpress printing?:
Working with Century Old equipment + enjoying working closely with each of our clients to ensure a finished piece that is exquisitely crafted all by hand + Colorado made.
What inspires you?:
Simply put... the Outdoors! I am so moved and inspired by the natural beauty of my surroundings and travels to faraway places, it is easy to incorporate these special elements into my designs + illustrations.
Which press(es), ink & paper do you usually use?:
I use my Century Old Golding Map Press for the bulk of my work along with my "mini" cast iron Kelsey printing press. I prefer custom mixed inks because mixing to me is relaxing in it's own way. Paper is my weakness, it is beautiful, 100% tree free, cotton, textured; the result is an exceptionally designed, finely printed piece that is one-of-a-kind, made in Colorado.
How would you describe your artwork?:
Creative free-spirit + meticulous perfectionist = refined and elegant simplicity = character of CabinPress Studio work.
What kind of products do you create?:
Personalized stationery packages, intricately-designed wedding invitation ensembles, limited edition posters, Colorado beetle kill Recipe boxes, coasters, business + calling cards, special one-of-a-kind items for clients.
Do you offer custom work?:
Where can we buy your products?:
Do you offer workshops? If yes, what kind of?:
I offer several different Letterpress Workshops. The most popular one being the CabinPress Studio Letterpress Curiosity Workshop, a 2 hour introductory lecture/hands on class for beginners. Come learn the basics of letterpress printing including the general mechanics of platen presses, tutorial of setting type, an overview of designing and prepping files for photopolymer plates, mixing ink and preparing the press for printing. I look forward to meeting + working with you to design a Workshop you will Love.
Is there anything you wished you had known as a beginner?:
You can never have enough space!
