Interview with Jesús from BunkerType
When did you start letterpress printing?:
About 5 years ago, after a lot of coincidences, however during my childhood I have been under the influence of printing.
What do you like best about letterpress printing?:
My printing system is completely manual and with very short editions... Every time I lift the paper from the printing press (in fact of binding) is a magic moment, but certainly the first printing in each mould is special, because the assemblage is very s
What inspires you?:
I love the metalanguages, but I don't have any particular source of inspiration.
Which press(es), ink & paper do you usually use?:
I particularly like a paper from Cartiere Magnani called Biblos, but I often use Fedrigoni papers... regarding my press curiously I am not using a printing press, but rather a binding artifact...
How would you describe your artwork?:
Although it took me a while, I think that I finally managed to explain it with a simple comparison: I am a kind of painter that instead of using brushes is working with lead and wood letters and antique letterpress printing material.
What kind of products do you create?:
I think that my work fits in what could be called "graphic works"...
Do you offer custom work?:
Where can we buy your products?:
Do you offer workshops? If yes, what kind of?:
I organize monthly workshops for very small groups of no more than 5 people
Is there anything you wished you had known as a beginner?:
I have been learning by myself almost everything I know, and even though it has been slower than it could have been, I am very proud to have managed it… I would love to know much more but I would not change the way of learning.
